I've always said that the Zenpan Dojo is an "oasis," a place that seems to appear whenever one needs it most, even though it's been there all along. The dojo is a place where you are free to be yourself, and the only competition you experience is the one you have with yourself. It exists to serve all people who seek to become their better versions, and with it, an owner who genuinely cares about helping you make that happen. I first met Jan Orda in 2010 when I decided to do just that. What I appreciated most about my first encounter with him was his down-to-earth personality and willingness to know me as a person. Given time and mutual commitment towards my goals, I can honestly say that I have never been more in-shape physically and even emotionally. To this day, Jan and the dojo continues to be there for me through my fitness ups-and-downs, and still proves to be the best place for me!
To say I'm blessed to be able to watch the growth of this dojo is quite an understatement. I’ve been training at this dojo on and off for multiple years now, from boxing training to agility training to overall conditioning. Not only does the workout consistently whoop my butt (family friendly language :D), but it is very flexible to adjust to whatever fitness goals you have. Kuya Jan Claude’s flexibility in training styles and methods really makes each workout new and exciting. I’ve brought multiple friends/teammates here to train for upcoming rec league basketball seasons and they’ve all loved it (shout out to Trust the Process). This is really a testament to Kuya Jan Claude’s willingness to adapt to the needs of others because he knows very little about basketball, lol. The dojo also showed me the importance of punctuality and respect for everybody’s time. That lesson was definitely taught in a stern but equally respectful manner and I have done my best to adapt it to other aspects of my life. Lastly, the dojo fosters an environment of faith and spiritual growth and we can always continue to grow in that regard! So come join the ZENPAN DOJO parade, there are many things that can be learned from here and you won’t be disappointed!
The famous Muhammad Ali once said, "It's lack of faith that makes people afraid of meeting challenges, and I believed in myself." The Zenpan Dojo provided the faith I needed to conquer my challenges at a young age. Thanks to Jan and the dojo, I found that my strength was not in anger or revenge, but in self-control and discipline. With this, I turned from a victim to a victor. With Jan you will not only be trained physically but mentally, spiritually and emotionally. Training at the Zenpan Dojo is conditioning for the body and soul. I've always been treated like family and enjoyed training with someone I consider to be a close family friend. Truly an experience for anyone looking to build their confidence while being motivated by friends!
I have been going to Zenpan Dojo on and off for the past 3 years but I have known the owner, Jan Claude, for over 6 years. During these 3 years, I have experimented with other martial arts establishments, but there’s something special about Zenpan and Jan that keeps me coming back! Zenpan is a dojo that emphasizes balance in physical, mental, and spiritual health. Seeing Jan carefully develop what started out as an idea into an all-encompassing therapeutic environment has been truly inspiring. It also conveys just how much of his heart is in every lesson he designs and teaches. Our dojo has grown into a family, and this is the greatest manifestation of Jan’s hard work. Just like any other family, we enjoy teasing and motivating each other to do their best as they push past their limits. Zenpan is a unique and dynamic experience that can elevate anyone willing to participate to the next level!
The Zenpan Dojo taught me valuable lessons in self-defense and in life. I have trained at other martial arts facilities, but felt that the instruction was too aggressive. It has taught me techniques useful in sticky situations without making me feel uncomfortable and encourages people to be themselves, be nerdy, and be gentle, but also be prepared to fight for yourself and others. Try a class and see how much fun self defense can be!
Wow! Well there is a lot I can say about what the Zenpan Dojo has done for me! Of course I've learned about jiu jitsu, self defense in Houston, boxing, but my time there has been much more than that. I feel like the most important thing I've learned is that dedication takes hard work. If I was truly commited to train I would have to put in the work inside and outside the dojo, which was extremely difficult at first because I've never exercised before. Besides that, the Zenpan Dojo to me is like its own little family. Not only do we train together but we motivate each other to do our best, along with the fact that we have good laughs. Overall, since I first started, I feel like I have grown a lot as a person and although I still have more growing to do and a lot more to learn, I'm on the right track thanks to Sensei Jan (and King!).
My experience with Sensei Jan was awesome! I learned a lot of punches and karate moves. While learning all of these things, Sensei Jan pushed me harder and harder. Sensei Jan pushing me to work hard made me ambitious to do better in agility and fighting. Sensei Jan is one of the best fighting teachers I've ever had.
Zenpan Dojo exceeded my expectations. I wanted to be strong, fast, and know how to defend myself and Jan helped me achieve those things and so much more. I became confident, built friendships, and found a place where I can feel at peace. If you are looking for a place that will challenge you everyday, this is IT! Jan is positive, enthusiastic, supportive, focused, goal-oriented, knowledgeable, observant and patient. Jan will go beyond expectations for anyone who steps into his dojo wanting to succeed. If it weren't for Jan and his dojo, I wouldn't be the person I am today. Thank you for everything that you do, Jan!
Sensei Jan will challenge you EVERY SINGLE time you step into Zenpan. He is supportive, a great motivator and above all he is patient. I came in with zero self-defense experience skills and I hate upper body training because its the weakest part of my body but Jan goes above and beyond to motivate you and he tailors your training to suit your needs. If you want a balanced physical, mental and spiritual experience, Zenpan will provide you with the peace and drive you need to start or end your day. I have seen people of all ages and all walks of life train with Jan and come out stronger and more aware of their skills and capacities. If you want a holistic learning experience and you desire to feel better and work harder, this is your place!
